Dry Eyes Surgery Options

If home remedies or medication is not able to treat your dry eyes, then you may be advised to go for dry eye surgery.  After the preoperative assessment, the doctor may offer the patient the following options:

Punctal Plugs:

Punctal plugs are tiny, biocompatible devices inserted into tear ducts to slow tear drainage, increasing eye moisture and relieving dry eye symptoms.

Intense Pulsed Light (IPL) Surgery:

IPL therapy uses light pulses to treat dry eye syndrome by unclogging oil glands, reducing inflammation, and improving tear film quality.

Photorefractive Keratotomy, PRK:

PRK is a refractive eye surgery that can worsen dry eye symptoms temporarily but may offer long-term relief by reshaping the cornea to improve vision.

Dry Eyes IPL Surgery Procedure

Before the Procedure:

Before IPL surgery for dry eyes, your eye doctor will evaluate your condition and medical history. They may recommend discontinuing certain medications and avoiding sun exposure.

During the Procedure:

During the procedure, you’ll wear protective eyewear as the doctor uses intense pulsed light to target the glands in your eyelids. The procedure is typically painless and takes about 15-30 minutes.

After the Procedure:

After IPL surgery, you may experience mild discomfort, redness, or sensitivity to light. You’ll need to use lubricating eye drops & avoid direct sunlight for a few days. People see improvement in dry eye symptoms within a few weeks.
