Eyesight Criteria for IAF | Air traffic controller | Air Force pilot Recruitment

The eyesight criteria for different roles within the Indian Air Force (IAF) can vary. Here’s an overview of the eyesight criteria for three specific roles: Air Traffic Controller, Flying Branch (Pilot), and Ground Duty Branches.

  1. Air Traffic Controller (ATC):
    • Visual Acuity: Minimum visual acuity of 6/9 in each eye without glasses. Correctable to 6/6 in one eye and 6/9 in the other eye.
    • Refractive Errors: Candidates should not have high refractive errors beyond specific limits. Typically, myopia should not exceed -3.50 D, hypermetropia should not exceed +3.50 D, and astigmatism should not exceed ±2.50 D.
  2. Flying Branch (Pilot):
    • Visual Acuity: Minimum visual acuity of 6/6 in each eye without glasses. Correctable to at least 6/6 in one eye and 6/9 in the other eye.
    • Refractive Errors: Pilots are expected to have minimal refractive errors. The limits can vary, but typically range from -2.5 to +2.5 diopters of myopia or hypermetropia and ±2.00 diopters of astigmatism.
  3. Ground Duty Branches:
    • Visual Acuity: Minimum visual acuity of 6/12 in each eye without glasses. Correctable to at least 6/6 in one eye and 6/12 in the other eye.
    • Refractive Errors: Candidates should not have high refractive errors beyond specific limits. The limits may vary, and the exact values are typically provided in the official notifications for specific Ground Duty Branch positions.

It’s important to note that these are general guidelines, and the specific eyesight criteria can vary based on the official notifications and guidelines issued by the IAF or the relevant authorities. The IAF conducts detailed medical examinations to determine the candidate’s eligibility for these roles, and specific eyesight requirements are specified in those examinations.
